In my personal experience, I would say 90% of maple syrup goes on top of pancakes, waffles, and French toast. It’s almost always a condiment at the breakfast table. If you go to a restaurant, they would put a small jar of maple syrup on the table if you order one of these things. Most people have it at home in a glass jar (if it’s fresh) or in a plastic one if it’s from one of the big brands. You can also use it in recipes to add a little sweet taste to roasted vegetables and stuff, but it’s almost always used on top of pancakes and waffles!

Maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised about the maple syrup reserves! It’s a good idea to protect against a bad harvest in a few down years.

It’s what eating in our main food and a big export, so the government keeps rice reserves to make sure people have enough to eat.
In difficult years, the government will tap into the rice reserves when harvests are poor due to severe weather or disease outbreaks.
