Thanks for correcting me on the use of mix in, I made some green tea and mixed in a spoonful of honey to sweeten it.

This is not quite right. Picture yourself in the kitchen and you’re making a cake. You mix in the butter, you mix in the flour, you mix in the sugar — you put it all together, so that it can’t be separated. But in your example, adding a column without changing the structure is the opposite of “mix in.”

But you can say, “A junior analyst mixed in different types of data and made the dataset harder to analyze.”

I would re-arrange this a little and say, “In my hometown, it’s common to mix a bunch of cloves into a teapot before serving tea.”

Perfect example of mix in! That will give you the sugar high you need after a long run.
