In reply to Claudio. Great ... I would say, "When I got my motorcycle license, I had a hard time with the first classes." However, the sequence is a little off. When you get your license, you've already taken the class. So here's what I would say, "When I went to get my motorcycle license, I had a hard time with the first classes." When you say, "When I went to get," you're saying, "When I began the process of getting..."
