haha great example. Just a quick edit, “…gave away that they won’t respond to…” or “…the contact already gave away that he or she won’t respond…”

I’m not sure what you mean about “come through the fog”. “Give away” is usually to reveal something that a person prefers or tries to keep hidden, not something that was hidden by circumstances. For example:

RIGHT: “The mother scolded her child for misbehaving, but her smile gave away her true feelings.” – She wanted to appear serious while disciplining her child, but her smile revealed that she wasn’t really very angry or upset
WRONG: “The child got hurt and the mother rushed to help him, giving away her true feelings” – She never had any intention to appear otherwise

In one scene, I noticed the cables around the actor’s waist, which gave away that a flying scene was coming.

This is perfect. It’s revealing a closely held secret

Good example. You can also say, “The election results gave away the fact that people were feeling…” and then say what they thought. Like, “The election results gave away the fact that the economy mattered more than international relations.”
