“out of hand” is perfect here. A few notes:

1. “if you have your first credit card”- you might say, “When you get your first credit card…”
2. “avoid that debts will get…” – this is a great time to use prevent…from (See video: Prevent…from)

So you can say, “When you get your first credit card, you must be careful using it to prevent debts from getting out of hand.”

Great use of “out of hand.” A few tips for you:

1. When talking about travel, we use “to” or “in” and not at: “We were on holiday in Norway and Sweden” or “We went to Norway and Sweden on holiday”
2. “Finally, we bought our meals…” This is fine, but this is a good time to use “wind up” or “end up”, which you can find here (in an early episode): Dive in, Wind up

We didn’t want to expend a lot of money. So we rent an apartment, we choose for travel the cheaper train, and we hired a car in Sweden and not from Norway to Sweden. But everything is very expensive for Spanish salaries, and our budget was getting out of hand. Finally we bought our meals in the supermarket for some days and we regained the control of our budget.

Great example. That works how it is. But you can also say, “Everything was going great until some guys showed up…”

Everything was going great, then some guys showed up and started causing trouble. Things got out of hand, so I left before it got worse

I know you like to drink milk! 😀 It was indeed a strange habit to rub milk into a desk, but according to my mom, his mother was more of a clean freak than a neglecting type. Apparently his mother didn’t know why his son was bullied at school, Ten years later in school reunion, though, I found out that the milk-rubbing boy got popular among girls, while kids who bullied the boy grew up to be rather dowdy looking men. Probably they should have rubbed milk more into their desks as well.
