Thank you for your tips! Yes, what I mean is that mum always puts her money to work. She hates to sit on the money, which I do all the time 😉

Perfect example of ‘fall on hard times.’ A few tips: “furniture” is already plural, so you would not say “furniture.” The expression “never lets money go to sleep” is not common in English. I think you mean that she always “puts her money to work” – that means to invest it in at least an interest-bearing account, if not in other investments.

Creditors came to seize her family’s property and pasted ‘red papers’, a sign of foreclosure, even on family’s furnitures. I don’t know how they recovered their foreclosed home, but living in rich neighborhood, mum’s schoolmate called their house a cattle barn, immensely hurting young mum’s feelings. That kind of experience is bad for kids growing up; now she goes shopping everywhere looking for sales, just to save a few cents. I must say she has never let us fall on hard times to this day, though, and she never lets money go to sleep either, buying up stocks which regularly pay dividends, while I dabble at foreign exchange markets and end up getting some hundred dollars more, after a decade’s investment. Yet it’s just sometimes, medical bills costs more than saving a few pennies at supermarkets, and I am more inclined to enjoy life itself.
