“at times” feels a little unnecessary or out of place at the end. You could say, “…my mother sometimes brought back” or …”my mother would at times bring back…”.

And you can say simply, “after work” instead of “after her work”

This is a great time to say “Not only, but” I would say, “When my friend left my house, I lent one book to him. The following week, he visited me and not only returned my book but he brought another book back with him.”
